Studio Session & Interview With Nashville Music Producer Big Bruno

See the Sound: Who are you?

Big Bruno: My name is Big Bruno,I’m 19 years old,and I’m coming out of Southern Middle Tennessee.I’ve had an amazing experience at being a producer by connecting with countless artists and producers over the past few years.

See the Sound: What made you take this practice seriously and when did it all started?

Big Bruno: I've been producing since the end of my sophomore year in high school,so I’ve pretty much almost invested four years into my craft.A rapper from the high school was putting out a mixtape, being a fan of Hip Hop/Rap music,I took a listen. After checking it out,I realized that a friend on Facebook was a producer of a couple tracks.I knew from that point that I could make music like that if I had the software.I pretty much self taught myself everything I know now and honestly,I wouldn’t of had it any other way.I knew I was musically inclined because I grew up with music around my family. When my parents bought a MacBook for my 17th birthday,I quickly began to grasp GarageBand and it’s been history ever since.I’ve been officially public and serious about my music for only two years.Reasoning behind this was because I value quality over everything.I didn’t want to put myself out until I knew my music was good enough.I had no idea, making beats on an online DAW as a hobby would lead me to connecting with some of the hottest underground artists along with a few mainstream rappers. It’s a great feeling becoming known, and to know that something I’m doing, people are digging. The people who have been there since day one have seen a tremendous improvement over my dedication and music, but we all know, there is so much more to come, and so much more work to be done.

See The Sound :  How do you make beats?

Big Bruno :  I really have no criteria when it comes to making beats. It usually just flows out.If I’ve been listening to an artist or producer during the week,I’ll tend to make something that I think would represent them.During the midnight hours,I tend to become more creative with my music.I don’t have a really set standard on what should go in the beat,if it sounds good,I’ll throw it in there somewhere. Most times I begin with simple melodies that fall into building complex chords. Then I go into the drum process where the magic really takes place.

See The Sound : How did you came up with the idea to film yourself while making music and provide tutorials for other producers?

Big Bruno : Like I said,I self taught myself almost everything I know, but I understand there are some producers out there who can learn more from videos rather than figure it out on their own, which is fine and all because I’ve done the same thing plenty of times.I think it’s a great idea for producers to provide beat making videos and tutorials because you can compare your methods with another person and improve where it’s needed. It also gives me motivation whenever I see producers I look up to making videos because I want to be in that position one day for upcoming producers.

See The Sound : We see that you manage to developed a huge follower base since you started. Would you call that crucial in marketing your music?

Big Bruno : I would definitely call this crucial in marketing my music.Without Twitter,I don’t know how far I would have came, and don’t know exactly where I would be at this point.By far,the best social media site.Twitter has allowed me to connect with artists all around the world from big to small.I’ve also had the chance to work with some very talented producers along the way. It’s crazy because I can remember hitting my first thousand followers. Now I’m looking at hitting 100k by the end of the year.

See The Sound : A lot of producers are struggling with selling their music. What would be the best strategy according to you?

Big Bruno : In other interviews,I cannot stress this enough,if you focus on making money from beats, you won’t succeed. You’ve got to remain humble and create the music.Everyone who is a producer is a producer because they love music. If you’re a producer and you’re focused on getting money,YOU ARE IN THE WRONG BUSINESS.Other than that, the best strategy is brand yourself, develop a name for your music, free downloads are a great tool for receiving traffic to your music. Most definitely have a website that looks professional and easy to navigate. You’ve got to spend money to make money, and believe me,I’ve spent way more than I’ve made. It’s all about networking.Once you know someone who knows someone, you’ll stay in business. You’ve got to have a product people are willing to invest in.Nobody wants a recreation, they want an original production.

See The Sound : Describe your ultimate self-produceed Hip Hop/Rap album? Who would you call to land on your beats and why?

Big Bruno : Without a doubt,Juicy J would have to be on the top of the list.I’ve been listening to him since I was 7 or 8 years old whenever Chronicles of a Juicemandropped. He’s a legend and a major inspiration in my music.Young Thug would also have to be a top contender on that album as well. He’s different, and a lot of people don’t see the potential behind his music.Straying away from the mainstream music,it would be an honor to produce a track for Logic.Logic is the definition of the type of lyricist the industry needs. He can kill it on an old school hip hop beat, and turn around and snap on a trap beat.I believe that’s what got him signed to Def Jam,and fan base is phenomenal. He’s severely underrated, and his potential is through the roof.

See The Sound : What’s your motivation?

Big Bruno : I've always wanted to become known.I’ve also always wanted to prove people wrong. That’s really my main focus and that drives me to where I’m at today.

See The Sound : Any upcoming projects and surprises?

Big Bruno : I love surprises and maybe there will be some later this year.As far as I know,no major placements are due.Just the consistent hustle on trying to be heard. As far as business goes, some website changes are coming up.Make sure to check those out at www.bigbrunosbeats.com.

See The Sound : Additional tips for other producers. Are you opened for collabos?

Big Bruno : Just keep working.I’ve been at this for three years now.I’ve had no major placements,no major record deals.I’ve had a pretty average producing career.I feel like sometime soon, everything is going to take off.Continue to make music and continue to grind.Worry about yourself and not what everyone is doing.Stay focus and stay dedicated. One thing I can’t stand is when other producers who aren’t majorly known charge out the wall for collabs. It’s understandable if someone like Lex Luger,Mike Will,or DJ Mustard charges, but for the average producer to charge,it makes no sense.I’m creating music, and I will always be open for collabs.Just shoot me a text (931)-637-8647 and we’ll get to work.I’m constantly working and always am looking for new projects and new challenges.
