Ever Wonder What Space Sounds Like? Listen for Yourself

It’s easy to believe that outer space is void of sound — a silent, dark existence — but the final frontier is actually filled with noises.

NASA space probes used Plasma Wave antennas to record the sounds of space, which are created by charged electromagnetic particles from the Solar Wind, ionisphere and planetary magnetosphere.

Space’s unique sound varies from those on Earth — just like the jungle sounds different from the city — and it’s rather mesmerizing.

Check out NASA’s recordings below, and learn more about sounds of space at Radio Astronomy, a project that broadcasts sounds intercepted from space live on the Internet and on the airwaves.

The recordings in the video entitled “Song of Earth” and “Voice of Earth” are man-made compositions of the original Earth sounds, however the rest of them are naturally occurring sounds of space.
