Nez & Rio: The Making of ScHoolBoy Q's “Gangsta” "Gangsta"

ScHoolBoy Q‘s ‘Oxymoron’ album gets another making the beat video because Nez and Rio decided to provide us with the official story behind “Gangsta”, the first track living on the project. This is happening after yesterday LordQuest took on a studio session with fellow producer Junia-T to talk about the “Blind Threats” record present on the same LP.

Both producers are kind enough to deliver exclusive details involved around this experience so overall this is something you don’t want to miss if ‘Oxymoron’ managed to catch a grip on you. Tune in and let’s see how this placement came together for the music producers.

Like the “Blind Threats” instrumental produced by Quest,  the main lead from “Gangsta” is based on a sampled record and the music producers take on their drum machine to break down the main part that was cut for the sample. The record that provided this file suffered the sampling process more than one time but Nez and Rio managed to blow out the dust from it and create a new vibe where ScHoolBoy Q landed with his lyrical arsenal. There’s more because the producers tell us that the song actually lives on several movie soundtracks as well.

For this beat break down Nez and Rio tell us that their old AKAI MPC needed to step up to do the job and it seems like after the sample was chopped up the producers jumped on to the drum elements next. The feeling wrapped around this section adds up a very serious mood and the Percussion set makes a noticeable stand but what’s really interesting is that the music producers tell us Q’s record is actually 2 or 3 years old.

After receiving the raw version of the beat a while ago, ScHoolBoy Q already crafted the song and apparently TDE thought this is worth a placement on “Oxymoron”. Nez and Rio actually managed to link up with Q when he was touring a few years ago and the producers were invited to a show in Atlanta. The TDE emcee played the hook with a verse from “Gangsta” backstage and of course the positive feedback was received almost instantly.

That’s the story behind the first song on “Oxymoron” basically and hopefully other music producers will break down their contribution as well. We can only wait to find that out but until then go here in case you skipped LordQuest talking about his “Blind Threats” beat.
