Grammy award winning music producer "Timbaland" stopped by at 106 & Park to discuss his new album "Opera Noir" and a host of other things. Some of which included a movie directed by Lee Daniels set to follow the release of his new album and also working on creating the music for the "Empire" television program.
Timbaland had originally unveiled plans for a solo album last fall, under the title of Textbook Timbo. He said that the Textbook project “evolved” into Opera Noir because he finally realized “what I want to do”, adding, “I found who I am and what I'm comfortable with.”
He explained that the album is a “culture thing,” adding, “It’s the truth. It’s just about life in general. My life. My personal life, and I found myself as an artist and human being and as a man.”

Already, Timbaland has previewed a number of singles: “Know Bout Me”, featuring Jay Z and Drake, was released last November, while a second Jay Z/Drake collaboration called “4 Horsemen” and “Bounce 2″ were sampled during recent live shows. Another track, “Been It” with Timberlake and Pharrell Williams, has yet to surface but a music video was reportedly filmed.
However, it’s unlikely any of these songs will make the final tracklist of Opera Noir. As Timbaland explained, the album is rather light on the features. “Me and my new artist, her name is V. Just me and her. And Cee-Lo. That’s it,” he said of the album’s guest list. He continued: “When [Opera Noir] comes out and you see the whole package, you’ll understand why. You’ll see it, and you’ll be like, ‘Wow, I've never seen nothing like this.’”
He’s so sure of the album’s impact, in fact, that he’s he christened it “my Chronic“.
In addition, Timbaland will be writing and producing the music for the forthcoming TV series, "Empire", airing on Fox.
The series pilot will be directed by Lee Daniels and written by Danny Strong, starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson.
According to Variety, the show is to be a family drama which is set in the world of Hip-Hop. Howard will portray a character named Lucious Lyon. According to The Hollywood Reported, the character is "charismatic, tough, wise and a superstar in the music industry who oversees Empire Entertainment and is about to take the company public. Raised on the streets, he has never backed away from a fight and will resort to any measures, fair or foul, to defend his beloved Empire.”
"Empire" will feature original and current music.
