Hard Knock TV teams up with Young Guru and DJ Khalil for an exclusive interview where the two artists talk about legendary Hip Hop figures like Dr. Dre, J. Dilla, DJ Quick and DJ Premier. Heavyweight groups like N.W.A. and De La Soul get rated as well and Roc-A-Fella Records contribution to the game gets evaluated.
Tune in for the first part of a series that promises to share a lot of details coming from the music business and industry. A quick follow-up is promised but until then let’s see what Young Guru and DJ Khalil have to say about everyone and everything mentioned above.
Guru starts the sit down by mentioning that hearing N.W.A.’s music for the first time was his initiation into gang culture and that type of lifestyle. The artist adds the fact that the group managed to make a noticeable impact because they brought something new and made everyone wonder what values are they standing for. Even if the East Coast had similar movements, it wasn’t something that could be compared with the West Coast at that time. Guru adds that music is what really introduced everyone to what’s going on behind gangs and their activity.
DJ Khalil says that the Roc-A-Fella movement had a noticeable impact as well and he was feeling the vibe coming from other artists even if they were doing music outside of the West Coast. Watching old footage from “The Black Album” brings a real bitter feeling for Khalil because he couldn’t make a personal print on that heavy project. The artist also adds that a lot of stars came out of that era and what really went down back then is truly something worth to remember in Hip Hop history. “It was a real fun time” adds up Guru while mentioning that the only reason those clips were filmed is because no one was able to see the making of an album at that time. “It was supposed to be Jay’s last album” tells us Young Guru and he also adds that they thought of documenting the whole process.
